PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Now seeking non-union, NYC-based talent for SUPERPOWER, an NYU Graduate Film student project about a woman who is unpleasantly surprised to discover that she's become invisible, but soon realizes that her invisibility endows her with more power and freedom than she's ever experienced before.

Amanda

Lead. Female. 40-50

Amanda’s a divorcée who has been seeing Tom for a few weeks. She’s beautiful, but insecure about how middle age has changed her appearance; she relies on makeup to feel presentable. When she realizes she’s literally become invisible to the people around her, she’s alarmed and upset, but her alarm soon gives way to curiosity about what this change means—she’s not the kind of person to panic, and she’s certainly no stranger to change. Having sought for so long to be seen, Amanda ultimately embraces a new power that comes with being unseen.

Tom

Supporting. Male. 45-55

Tom is a divorcé who owns a house in Ridgewood, Queens, and holds a very high opinion of himself. After all, he’s successful in his trade, he’s kept himself in good shape for his age, and he’s free as a bird to do whatever he pleases. Tom thought Amanda was nice, but she wasn’t really what he was looking for, physically. Alexis makes Tom feel 22 again, and why settle for what you’ve got when you can trade in for a newer model?

Alexis

Supporting. Female. 20-24

Alexis is a lovely young woman, inside and out; she just happens to get caught in the crossfire between Tom and Amanda. She’s thin and fresh-faced—the type of girl who can walk out the door in the morning with no makeup on and feels confident that she looks great (and is right). This is the first time she’s ever dated an older guy, and she finds it exhilarating to be this coveted.

Headphone Guy

Day Player. Male. 20-30

Headphone Guy is a tall, lanky young man who simply wants to enjoy his music on his way to work. He’s got every confidence in himself: nothing to prove, nothing to hide—especially not his dance moves (although he probably should hide them…). He’s simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when he passes Amanda, as she tries to figure out the rules of her new invisibility.
